Eternal Potential Play

Last week I failed to mention an amazing piece of skateboarding.  This clip was so amazing that I'm pretty sure Amazing Larry would be impressed.  It was posted by EternalRewind.  I have bumped it a few times and I'm doing so again...blog style.  Here's why.  In the video, he displays most types of advanced (realistic-centric) skate techniques and styles.  Sweet.  But what amazed me was the reaction it gets when I show it to the people that made the game.  They lose their minds.  They had no idea that Natas spins and such precise board control was possible.  The low-pops, the double grinds, the trash can lid slide...it all was there.  And most importantly it's a tremendous display of a concept we have embraced..."play potential".  Basically, build something fun to play with, then see what people do with it.

Like a skateboard.  It's wood, with trucks and wheels and it rolls.  But...it's how you look at it, what you see in it...how you play with it that makes it so much fun.  Skaters do that.  And not every one is the same.  We're talking a world of skating that includes Todd Falcon, Richie Jackson, Ricky Oyola, Daewon, and Danny Way.  All very different skaters.  But they are all skaters with their own unique way at looking at that useless wooden toy...and how to play with it.

Eternal's clip got the team stoked to see where you guys are taking the potential.  And it's not just him.  It's all of you.  You guys are doing stuff we never imagined...and some stuff we're trying to figure out how to do ;)

Good job, playing.

Oh, yeah...here's his clip...

Longplays

When I first watched this I thought of something witty to write about.  But I forget what it was.  Here's Alzheimer Productions' full length.  Bunch of people, nice tunes, and wonderous skating.  Way to go lads.  This ... and this

If there were more...sorry...I'm getting forgetful...hit me up in the discussion section.

Shorties

Corporate Hippies... not sure if it was a shot at a former long haired marketing plant for the Skate Franchise (that's what the kids were calling me, right?)...but I was into the skating, overall vibe, and super stoked when the Sunshine Band dipped, MNO ‘sploded over the fence, the music picked back up and he threw down a style ender... looks like a good team to join for anyone down with their perogram...

This week's obligatory Bullet clip...damn he's ok at that skateboarding thing...  ...dub grinds, sick gaps to skinny ledge landings and Bond song?  Yep.

The best of someone who skates really fast and smoove...Tubilakken graced us with a greatest hits solo and used a song that took me waaaaaay back.  Good INXS FTW...and 2:55 was sick...and that ender is pure classic...

Have a seat on the Couch POOOPOOO and watch out for flying papers...

Have to mention The Machine that is Animal...fully loaded with wholesome goodness...

I care about you Baconweed...and I care about can manuals...manual debris hop lines...looping lines to impress the girls (2:20), and gargantuan triple sets...I really care!
Demz and Southie got together and produced this...... coincidence that my favorite Southie trick starts at 4:20?  Hmmmmmm... Oh, and learn to spell, fools...

Full disclosure time...I skate with Southie all the time.  If you haven't seen Southie's stuff, he is insanely good.  Like anything you think of or call out, he can do...usually first try.  Circus tricks, glitches, lines, gaps, tranny, street, proper, improper...he does it all.  But, just remember Southie...nobody likes you ;)

Promos

The Hood had a family flare up as Demz battled Magic with commercials.  195War looks sweet but when I played the Jim Croce, people around me thought I was going to cry.  Then I checked Magic's Hostile propaganda and the Door's kicked in and heads got happy.  Hostile wins!  (as much as it pains me to say anything nice about scary voice man.) ...  and this

The Hood is too prolific...Berry represent!   ...Jake Todd?  Heavy hitters galore.

Sooooo graphically entertaining.  Team Nada...These dudes kill it on the promo front!

Stepping it up!

Tales From The Skatepark

Dub Grinds are the shite.  I know I'm stating the obvious months too late...but I've taken a liking to them...a real strong liking to them.  One of those likings where when I see them I get all warm and fuzzy inside and want to make flirty eyes at them or ask them out to dinner.  I like them so much I started showing them to people on the team. They're all, "whoa...how'd they do that?"  I'm all, "hang on...let me ask Southie."  Then I came back with the low-down...now we're trying them.  Thanks all you dub heads for making the game that much better by "breaking" it.

Here's my the combo that took down James Toney for the heavy weight championship of the world...heelflip, heelflip, kickflip, frontside gra (to bLock), backside grab (to weave), then POW! With a FS360 shuv.  Knocking suckers out in Fight Night 4, Skate style, baby!

Somebody got shot a block from my house.  Is that gangster enough to get me on a cool Skate team?  Oops...replace "er" with an "a".

Dredging the dregs

Back in our Skate infancy, in the days when we were negotiating the seas of getting green lit...I did a "zine"-ish thing for our team.  We called it Eat Crete, and it was a compendium of what was happening with the team, with the game, and with skating in general.   I got nostalgic recently and checked out some issues when I came across the switch edition.  At the time, we had just put switch into the game.  In order to explain how difficult true switch was...and to do it proper...I challenged the team to a drawing contest...switch.  They could draw whatever they wanted, but had to use their opposite hand...get it?  Switch.  I was amazed at the talent so many on the team had at drawing switch.  Here's a couple of things I really dug... thanks Tom and Clint!
